Hillside Police Department

Police Chief Joseph M. Lukaszek

The Hillside Police Department works to ensure the safety of the Village and to enforce various statutes and ordinances on a 24 hour per day basis. In addition to regular patrol of the Village, the Police Department offers other services. For more information call (708) 449-8851 or contact us online.  Hillside residents can feel assured that their Police Department's main objective is to protect the citizens and their property against crime. The department consists of 32 sworn officers, five full-time and 1 part-time radio dispatchers, two records clerks,  eight marked and five unmarked vehicles for around-the-clock protection.

The divisions within the department consist of Administration, Patrol, Investigation, Juvenile, and Records, all working together in support of one another.

To better serve the Village, the department has established the "ARE YOU OK?" program to better serve our senior community, a Community Awareness Program that meets every third Monday of the month at the Community Center, 1 N. Lind, and has assigned a Police Liaison Officer to Proviso West High School. Please contact our Police Department for detailed information regarding any or all of these programs.

In 1996, a police Bike Patrol Unit was established. The officers of this unit ride bicycle patrol during the warm months. They cover the Villages' park areas, business sections, and other parts of the village with high summer activity. The purpose of these assignments is to promote community orientated policing in the community.

The Police Department also has a full time Police Social Worker assigned to assist the department with individuals and families in need of counseling and is available to all Hillside residents. The Hillside Police Department is equipped with a fully automated computerized records department including Lifescan Booking and new lap-top computers in the cars.

Education is one of the top priorities of the Police Department. This goal is realized with the Department's participation in the Multi-Regional Training Program, which allows the officers to continue their education and utilize the latest techniques and specialization available in their field.

A positive rapport exists between the Village President and the Village Board, which allows the Police administration to commit to making the Hillside Police Department the finest in the western suburbs to better serve the residents and business community in Hillside.

During the new millennium, the Police Department will continue to strive to improve the relationship between the police and residents with the continued enforcement in the community oriented policing philosophy for the entire Police Department.
