Drone Program

The Hillside Police Department has implemented a Drone Program to enhance our response capabilities across various incidents and events, utilizing unmanned aerial systems (UAS). A drone is an aerial device with an onboard computer that is operated remotely, by a licensed pilot on the ground using a handheld controller. Small drones are battery-operated, weigh less than 55 pounds, and are equipped with a video camera. Some common uses of drones in law enforcement include: special events crowd monitoring, search and rescue, emergency response, and training. The use of these drones are conducted in accordance with State and Federal laws and are outlined in the Department policy.
