Statement from Hillside Police on an incident at Proviso West High School

On 11/14/2023, shortly after 10 AM, the Hillside Police Department received a report of a juvenile stabbed at Proviso West High School, 4701 Harrison St Hillside, IL.  Police Officers and Fire Department personnel responded to the school.  Upon arrival, a male juvenile was transported to the ER with a stab wound.  The sole offender fled from the school.  Proviso West and Hillside School were both placed on lockdown status.  Both the victim and offender are Proviso West High School students.

The investigation so far has revealed that this is an isolated incident involving two juveniles who know each other and may have had other issues in the past.  No other students were involved in the altercation, which took place in a stairwell on the first floor.  The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to both arms and was treated and released from a local area hospital.

The offender fled from the school and was last seen on camera heading south from the school campus towards Fencl Ln/Roosevelt Rd.  The offender was located at approximately 1:30 PM and taken into custody by Hillside Police Detectives.

The juvenile offender is in custody at the Hillside Police Department pending charges.

All area schools have lifted their lockdowns and resumed their daily activities.
