Village of Hillside and Openlands Join Forces to Beautify Illinois Prairie Path

Illinois Prairie Path Sign

The Village of Hillside is proud to announce it has been awarded a generous grant from Openlands, a prominent conservation organization dedicated to preserving natural landscapes in northeastern Illinois and beyond. This grant represents a significant milestone in the Village's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community enhancement.

The grant has been allocated to support a collaborative project with Openlands and the Village of Hillside with assistance from the Illinois Prairie Path. On Thursday, April 25th, the Village along with Openlands volunteers, will commence the planting of 25 trees along both the north and south sides of the Prairie Path that runs through Hillside, stretching from Clayton Rd. to Maple Ln. This initiative aims to foster biodiversity, improve air quality, and enhance the overall aesthetics of the trail. In addition to the support from Openlands, the project has also garnered the full funding sponsorship from United Airlines along with their employee volunteer assistance.

Openlands has been a driving force in conservation efforts throughout the region for many years, advocating for the protection and preservation of natural landscapes, as well as promoting environmental education and awareness. The Village is honored to collaborate with Openlands on this impactful initiative.
