Police Department
Welcome to the Hillside Police Department website. My name is Joseph Lukaszek and I have the honor of serving as the Chief of Police for Hillside since November of 2005. Since my taking on this law enforcement leadership role, the Hillside Police Department has undergone some major changes in the way we do business. We have collaborated with both community and business members to create a network to assist the police department in deterrence of criminal activity and to establish clear lines of constant communication between all partners.
Education and training is a large part of our mission in the Hillside Police Department. The majority of our officers hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree, and some even have attained Masters Degrees in fields relating to law enforcement and community planning and development. All Hillside Police Officers receive monthly online training and attend various training seminars on a regular basis hosted by the State of Illinois. Being the host community for Proviso West High School, all Hillside Police officers have become State of Illinois Certified Juvenile Officers. This allows our officers the opportunity to work alongside youth within and outside of our community.
The structure of the Hillside Police Department consists of one Chief of Police, six Patrol Sergeants, four Corporals and a Patrol Division. In addition to general patrol and police response, we have an Investigation Division that specializes in computer crimes and vice operations. Our Records Division maintains all official reports and records. Lastly, but equally as important, is our state of the art Dispatch and Communications Division, of which the personnel in this division are often the first contact with the public in times of crises.
Located in the heart of the western suburbs of Chicago, the Hillside Police Department handles approximately 15,000 to 20,000 calls per year for service. There is a wide range of services that we provide from lockouts of automobiles, assisting motorists to vacation watches and crime alerts, just to mention a few of the services provided.
My first and primary goal is “to protect and serve our residents, business residents, and visitors in our community by enforcing the law in a fair and impartial manner. Secondly, I continue to strive to maintain and develop community partnerships and programming to assist bi-directional communication between all shareholders in the Village of Hillside.
