The Village of Hillside contracts its solid waster services with Flood Brothers Disposal Co.
 
All solid waste materials must be placed at the curb for collection by 6:00 a.m. the day of your scheduled collection, but not before 6:00 p.m. the day before your pick-up. Flood Brothers does not guarantee a specific time the driver will be at your home. Please note, the collection time may vary.
 
Residents are allowed one (1) bulk item and one (1) white good item (i.e. appliances) for pick up each week free of change when calling Flood Brothers 24 hours in advance.

General Guidelines 

REFUSE

Flood Brothers Disposal Co. will provide weekly collection to each single-family, two flat, qualifying three flat and town home. Collection containers must be clearly marked. Residents will retain their existing 95-gallon, 2-wheeled, refuse carts. Additional trash is accepted in resident-owned containers, not exceeding 35 gallons or 50 pounds (each). Carts are owned by the village. Additional carts can be requested through the village hall, charges do apply.

RECYCLING

Residents will retain the existing 65-gallon, 2-wheeled recycling carts. Flood Brothers allows recycling materials to be co-mingled (i.e. plastic, glass, metal and paper products mixed together). There is no limit to the number of recycling bins or to the quantity of recyclables that a household may place at the curb for collection. Residents have the right to set out recycling bins which are clearly marked for recycling collection and do not exceed 35 gallons or 50 pounds. Carts are owned by the village. Additional carts can be requested through the village hall, charges do apply.

YARD WASTE

Flood Brothers will provide weekly collection of yard waste from April 1st through November 30th on the same day as refuse and recycling collection each week. Residents will retain the existing 95-gallon, 2-wheeled, yard waste carts. Additional yard waste can be placed in a plastic or metal container with a tight cover or a biodegradable Kraft bag, of a size no larger than 35 gallons and not exceeding 50 pounds. We will accept and collect all bundles of brush or limbs, providing the bundles do not exceed a weight of 50 pounds per bundle, are not more than 4' long, are not more than 2' in diameter, do not contain limbs greater than 3" in diameter and are tied with a material that is accepted at the compost site. Curbside leaf collection will be provided to all residential properties included in the contract. Beginning the first full week of October through the last week of November. Leaves must be put in kraft bag or container. Leaves must be put in a kraft bag, container, or yard waste cart.

BULK ITEMS

As part of the regularly scheduled refuse collection, Flood Brothers will collect 1 bulk item per week on refuse collection day at no charge. Additional bulk items are $12.50 per item. The following items are considered bulk items: mattresses, box springs, tables, chairs and other furniture. Please call Flood Brothers at least 24 hours prior to schedule.

CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION

Flood Brothers will provide a special collection for Christmas trees entire month of January at no charge.

SPRING CLEAN UP

Flood Brothers will provide one Spring Clean Up event per year in May. Details will vary from year to year and are advertised on the Village’s website and other media sources.

CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS

Small amounts of do-it-yourself projects less than one yard will be collected for free. Additional yards will be charged $12.50 per yard with a minimum of two yards. Anything greater than one yard call the office to schedule a special collection. Construction debris must be contained in either cans or plastic bags not exceeding 35 gallons in size and 50 pounds in weight. Construction and remodeling debris that cannot be containerized must be securely tied and bundled. Bundles must not exceed 4 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight. Flood Bros. has roll off dumpsters available for rental for larger volumes of construction debris.

WHITE GOODS

Flood Brothers will also provide collection services for white good items (i.e., appliances). One (1) per week on refuse collection day at no charge. Examples shall include refrigerators, dishwashers, water heaters, washers, dryers, etc. Residents will be required to call our office 24 hours prior to collection to schedule pick up.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Flood Brothers requires residents to reach out to our office when possible hazardous waste material may need to be disposed of (i.e., paint, pesticides, poison, cleaning solvents, oil, gasoline and other automotive fluids). We will work with the resident to find the best solution for disposal with the assistance of Cook County Recycling programs.

BILLING

Only items that exceed the village program may be subject to a bill.

COLLECTION DAYS

All materials (refuse, recycling, and yard waste) will be collected on the same day, once per week.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING

The Village of Hillside has recycling bins available where you can dispose of your unwanted TVs and electronics properly. This service is for Hillside residents only. The Village of Hillside and Flood Brothers will not pick up TVs at curbside. The Village Hall accepts televisions 32" or smaller tube TVs, flat screens 60" or smaller, and other electronics such as VCRs, receivers, telephones, etc. This recycling program is NOT for small appliances such as toasters, blenders, etc. Accepted items include:
