Quiet Zone Train Horn Information

(Mailed to residents  – dated February 22, 2018)

Dear Resident:

The issue of train horns and the requirements for establishing a Quiet Zone has been raised.  The Village of Hillside first began investigation of this issue in 2013.  The Village Board ultimately decided not to pursue the establishment of a Quiet Zone due to required changes in traffic flow, costs and concerns about Village liability if there were to be a railroad crossing accident.

The Village will host a Town Hall Meeting to share with interested residents what is required to create a Quiet Zone.  At the meeting, a civil engineer from Hanson Professional Services, whose specialty is railroad issues, will be present to explain the process.  The Village has also posted information on the Village of Hillside web page on establishing Quiet Zones.

The Town Hall Meeting will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 and will begin at 10:00am.  The meeting will be held at the Hillside School District 93 gymnasium, 4804 W. Harrison Street, Hillside.  Please enter through door #6, which is closest to Darmstadt Road.

Very Truly Yours,

Joseph T. Tamburino
