Hillside Gets Grant to Modernize Public Safety Dispatch Center

Published on January 20, 2020

In our Village’s continuous efforts to improve the safety of its residents, Hillside successfully sought out a consolidation grant from the State of Illinois in the amount of $449,738.48. These funds will go towards the cost of updating our dispatch center equipment. This will allow for our dispatch center to begin dispatching for the Village of Westchester, police and fire, which is why it is called a consolidation grant.
The dispatch center updates will include an updated 9-1-1 answering system that will improve the accuracy of the 911 calls received and a newer IP based radio console with increased features.
Additional features include a fire station alerting system for improved communication between the dispatch center and the fire departments. Overall, the system will be better equipped with redundancy (handling calls more expeditiously), ability to connect to a statewide 911 network (ESInet), and more capable of handling any next generation 9-1-1 challenges.
