Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – Community Art Contest

Published on January 4, 2021

The Village of Hillside and the Hillside Community Relations Commission (HCRC) is reaching out to the community for submissions for a new tribute for our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration for 2021!

Due the Covid 19 outbreak, we are celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a more visible manner, but socially distanced manner.  We are offering an opportunity to create original art on the 2021 topic theme for the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, titled, ‘We Can Do Better Together’.

Dr. King wanted everyone to participate in making our society better with actions and not just words. If we pull together as a community, we can accomplish so much more as we support one another!

ART SUBMISSION FORMAT:  Artwork can be a drawing, sketch, statue or painting.  It can be completed in color or black & white or pencil.

CRITERIA:  Artwork will be judged on the quality of the expression of the theme, creativity and level of positive content.   Pieces should not be smaller than 8 in x 10 in or larger than 16 in x 24 in.

DEADLINE:  Please submit pieces to the Hillside Village Hall marked “Attention: Hillside Community Relations Commission” by Friday, February 5, 2021.

The Hillside Community Relations Commission will evaluate the pieces submitted and select the top 25 to display in the Hillside Village Hall for Black History Month in February and publish photos in the Hillside Herald Newspaper.

For more information, please call (708) 449-6450; or visit the website at www.hillside.il.org.   Thank you for your participation!

We look forward to seeing the creativity and participation of everyone in this event.
