Water Bill Details
Summer is right around the corner and that typically means higher water bills. As you may be aware, the Village manually reads your outside remote device every other month. However, this summer we will be reading your outside remote device April through October.
Throughout the years, summer months have shown some very high water bills due to outdoor watering usage. Reading the meters every month should eliminate one large actual bill when the prior bill is estimated. When your bill is estimated, our water billing software takes your average usage based on all past history of your account. In summer months, we tend to use more water and the software does not account for that. Due to the village performing manual water readings this summer, you will not receive another estimated bill until November, 2006.
Since water billing can be confusing, it is important to understand that water is billed approximately one month after your outside remote device is read, which means your current July invoice is for water used during the month of May.
The usage dates do appear on your water bill. There could be a reason your bill is high or low depending on the usage month.
We recommend reading your inside meter at the end of each usage month (above). When you receive your invoice for that bill month (above) your reading should be close, if not the same, as our reading obtained from your outside remote device around that same time. For example, if you were to read and document your inside meter reading at the end of July, your September water bill month reading should be close if not the same as your end of July reading you documented. Keep in mind during actual read months, Public Works may not be able to read your outside remote device the same day of each month. Therefore, your inside reading at the end of the month and our outside remote device reading could differ slightly. If there is a substantial difference, please call us.
We continue to remind residents that have an older water metering device to read and compare the inside meter reading with the outside remote device. If there is a difference of 2,000 gallons or more, it indicates to us there is a problem with the outside remote device. Please call us so we can make an appointment to replace your meter.
For those residents that have a newer meter, you will not be able to read your outside remote because it is computerized. Therefore, by reading your inside meter at the end of each month as recommended above, you can compare it with our outside remote device reading when you receive your bill. If there is a substantial difference, please call us to make an appointment to determine the problem.
Our Public Works Department reads your inside meter by reading the outside remote device, which is linked to the inside meter. However, remotes do get worn, malfunction, and sometimes stop moving. It is important to call us if you notice any problems with your outside remote device.
Per Village Ordinance, a minimum water bill of $6.45 will be billed to your account regardless of water usage.
If you receive a high or low water bill, and you can’t determine the reason why, have any questions or do not understand how our water billing works, please call us @ 708-202-3434 so we can help you in any way we can. |
