This year we are proud to have, John W. Gore, Jr. as our Grand Marshal. John was originally from Berwyn. He enlisted in the Navy and served as Seaman First Class from October 18,1944 until July 16,1946. During that time he was on the Battleship, U.S.S. Grayson (DD 435) and served faithfully aboard “Condition Red” for a period of six months. He married the love of his life, Marie Novotny from Cicero on October 8,1949. This happy couple moved to their “new” home in Hillside on June 19,1954 where they raised their two children, daughter Gerilyn (Geri) and son Richard (Rick). John is a former machinist at Redington Custom Machines in Bellwood. John’s and his lovely wife Marie were married 58 years until her death on December 15, 2007. His two beautiful Grandchildren and five amazing Great-Grandchildren keep him busy. He has been an active member of St. Domitilla Parish for 62 years and with his friends enjoys many activities hosted by the Church, Village and other groups. John will be celebrating a “milestone” birthday this December when he turns a “Young 90”. We are proud to have this special WWII Veteran be our Grand Marshal and lead our parade and we are proud of his service to our Country, our Village, his Faith, his Family and his Friends.
Thank you John for everything you have done for “Our Country” and continue to do for “Our Community”!
