Incentive Programs
The Mayor and Village Board are committed to retaining businesses in Hillside and are creating a program of Business Retention which is handled on a case-by-case basis. Since the program is a work-in-progress and the program is evolving, please check with the Director of Economic Development if you have any questions. Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) – Since the development of the district on what was the Hillside Mall property off of I-290 on the south side, Menards, a home improvement store, now leases over 100,000 square feet and has a full lumber yard. Approximately 20 acres of the TIF district is now occupied by CarMax Auto Superstore, which a retail facility selling quality previously owned motor vehicles. Also, the development of a 168 bed nursing home with daycare facilities and adult living units within this area will help spur further redevelopment. This facility opened in early 1997, and has recently built a small addition for eight more beds. Extended Stay America opened a three story, 122 unit suite hotel in 2000.
