Incentive Programs

The Village of Hillside has information on incentives that are available to start-up businesses, existing businesses with expansion needs, and established businesses contemplating a presence in Hillside. The Mayor and Village Board are committed to retaining businesses in Hillside and are creating a program of Business Retention which is handled on a case-by-case basis. Since the program is a work-in-progress and the program is evolving, please check with the Director of Economic Development if you have any questions.

Business Redevelopment District (BRD) - an area including Hope Lutheran Church, 5200 Madison, Luurs Garden Shoppe, 5200 Butterfield, Hillside Baptist Church, 5152 Butterfield, one vacant lot, 5122 Butterfield, and three (3) residential homes, 5188, 5114 Butterfield and 332 East End. Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) – Since the development of the district on what was the Hillside Mall property off of I-290 on the south side, Menards, a home improvement store, now leases over 100,000 square feet and has a full lumber yard. Approximately 20 acres of the TIF district is now occupied by CarMax Auto Superstore, which a retail facility selling quality previously owned motor vehicles. Also, the development of a 168 bed nursing home with daycare facilities and adult living units within this area will help spur further redevelopment. This facility opened in early 1997, and has recently built a small addition for eight more beds. Extended Stay America opened a three story, 122 unit suite hotel in 2000.
